• Sunday 8 February 2026 Excellent Burns' Night Supper for Sixth Form Another splendid Burns' Night was celebrated by the Sixth Form and staff last week, complete with traditional haggis, tatties and neeps, plus poetry, speeches, and dancing.
• Saturday 7 February 2026 Concerto Concert 28 February Our next Concerto Concert will take place on Saturday 28 February at 7.30pm in Minster Hall.
• Friday 6 February 2026 Inspired by Vincent This is the start of a very promising project based on the landscapes painted by Vincent van Gogh.
• Thursday 5 February 2026 Outdoors with the Growing Minds curriculum During the last month, we have wassailed the fruit trees, had a visit from the Mari Lwyd, dug over the wildflower meadow, planted bulbs in pots, made looms from sticks to learn about weaving, enjoyed the snow, made biodegradable bird feeders, took part in the Big Schools Birdwatch and cast Viking coins from pewter - oh, and made the most of all the mud!!
• Wednesday 4 February 2026 Congratulations Hugo! Many congratulations to Hugo (Year 4) who was recently installed as a full chorister into the Lichfield Cathedral Choral Foundation. Hugo joins his older brother George who is a Choral Scholar and sisters Francesca and Sophia in the Cathedral Choir.
• Tuesday 3 February 2026 U11 Hockey vs NULS In their first fixture of the hockey season, the U11 boys made an outstanding start with a superb team performance against Newcastle-under-Lyme School. Well organised from the outset, the boys played some excellent hockey with fantastic link-up play throughout.

• Sunday 1 February 2026 U9 Girls' Netball vs Highclare Our U9 girls played their first netball fixture of the year on Friday against Highclare. This was an especially exciting occasion as it was the first time the girls had played together as a team, and they approached the afternoon with lots of enthusiasm and excitement.
• Saturday 31 January 2026 U15 Girls' Netball vs Stafford Grammar Our U15 girls played their first fixture of the year on Thursday against Stafford Grammar, which was also their first opportunity to play together as a team. From the opening whistle, the girls showed great confidence and cohesion.
• Friday 30 January 2026 Year 3 support Children's Air Ambulance We are thrilled to share that Year 3 had a fantastic morning collecting second-hand clothes for the Children's Air Ambulance on Monday 19th January. Your generous donations truly made a difference, and we cannot thank you enough for your support.

• Tuesday 27 January 2026 Happy Birthday LCS! Today we celebrate our 84 years since the refoundation of our school in 1942. Foundation Day is a cause for great celebration here in School and it's not lost on us that the refounding of a school during a world war was an audacious endeavour. Our day traditionally starts with a popular cooked breakfast prior to our service of rededication in the cathedral. We are provided with the opportunity to give thanks for the year we have shared and for those who have supported the School in a variety of ways since its origins as a song school.
• Monday 26 January 2026 Staffordshire Young Musician 2026 competition open Entries are now open for the Composer Award of the Staffordshire Young Musician 2026 competition.
• Sunday 25 January 2026 Well done Annabelle and Poppy! Well done to Poppy and Annabelle (both Year 5) for taking part in the cross-country event held on Sunday 11th January in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, representing the Royal Sutton Coldfield Athletics Club.

Albert Einstein A growth mindset - the belief that intelligence and abilities can be developed through effort and perseverance - is central to helping pupils become resilient and motivated learners. Carol Dweck's research at Stanford University has shown that students who embrace a growth mindset are more likely to take on challenges, persist through difficulties, and ultimately achieve higher levels of academic success. This approach shifts the focus from innate talent to learning strategies, effort, and perseverance.
• Friday 23 January 2026 ISA Midlands Cross Country Championships On Tuesday 20th January, LCS took a strong team of 37 pupils to Ashley Manor Prep school in Cheltenham, to take part in the School's second ISA Midlands Regional Cross-Country Championships. LCS took part in their first ISA cross-country event in 2025, and 2 pupils managed to secure selection for the Midlands Team and compete at the ISA National Cross Country Championships. It was definitely the aim for many of our pupils to try and break into that top 10, and have the opportunity to compete at a national event next month.
• Thursday 22 January 2026 Chorister installation in January Congratulations to Zofia and Isabella on being installed into the Cathedral Foundation Choir as full choristers on the 11th January.
• Wednesday 21 January 2026 Crocodiles spotted at Longdon?! If you visit Longdon, please beware of the Year 2 corridor as we are surrounded by some rather scary, green crocodiles!!
• Tuesday 20 January 2026 Congratulations, Jeremy! We are delighted to share that Jeremy, our Head Boy Chorister, has been awarded a Distinction in his Grade 5 ABRSM Singing Exam.
• Monday 19 January 2026 Ninja Choristers! After an extremely busy December, the choristers enjoyed a thank you treat for all their hard work at Ninja Warrior on Saturday last week. A really lovely time was had by all. Mrs Barton

• Thursday 15 January 2026 Mother and daughter appointed Lay Vicars Ailsa Cochrane (LCS vocal tutor since 2007) and her daughter, Eilidh Owen (former LCS pupil 2013-2022, chorister and choral scholar) have both been appointed as alto Lay Vicars with Lichfield and Salisbury Cathedrals respectively.

• Monday 12 January 2026 Laurie at Dorchester Abbey Congratulations to Laurie H (Year 9) for singing and playing the organ at the New Year's Eve concert in Dorchester Abbey, alongside the Orchestra of St John's, the OSJ Voices and soprano Hannah Davey, all conducted by John Lubbock OBE.

• Saturday 10 January 2026 Calling all young writers! Lichfield Festival are looking for budding young writers to create a 'Tiny Story' of up to 300 words on the theme “Growing Tomorrow”. The winning story will be read aloud by Stephen Fry and shown at the Lichfield Literature Festival.

• Thursday 8 January 2026 Successful skiing in sunny Austria The December LCS Ski Trip to the Alpendorf Ski Resort in Austria was a great success, and included plenty of skiing and sledging, evening entertainments, plus a visit to the thermal baths and a quiz night.
