Creative workshops with Daniel Thompson, Poet
Longdon pupils recently had a very special visitor: Daniel Thompson, the Tamworth based poet who wrote the best selling books Outside In, Being You and All of Me. He helped us celebrate National Poetry Day and taught the children different forms of poetry. The theme this year was 'wonder' and both Wednesday and Thursday were filled with wondrous poetry!
Daniel held amazing poetry workshops with all our children from Reception to Year 4 where he explained useful strategies which will enable them to successfully structure their own poems. He helped pupils learn about Haikus, rhyming couplets, nonsense poetry and the short rhyming poem.
The children had fun playing all sorts of games and they learned how to build a word bank of similies and metaphors to help them create their own poems based on different topics.
We all had a marvellous day!
