Year 6 learn horticulture and sustainability

:

Year 6 have been busy exploring and improving the garden at Broadhurst. They started by taking measurements and drawing scaled drawings of the garden - a great way to support their maths work. They then conducted some research on different types of plants and flowers and which would be most suited to the garden.

The garden has 'grown' from there with donations of plants, flowers and seeds coming in from pupils and staff. The pupils put together a small greenhouse and they have prepared the beds for planting.

Some children visited the art studio and made fantastic signs for the garden, too. The wildflower garden is looking particularly stunning now, and is attracting so much wildlife.

Many of the Year 6 and Year 5 pupils enjoy volunteering their time at breaks to help with the upkeep. Thank you so much to everyone who was able to donate some plants and cuttings.
