Year 6 investigate the double helix structure of DNA
This term in History, Year 6 pupils have been exploring the fascinating story behind the discovery of the DNA double helix. They have been learning about the crucial contributions of scientist Rosalind Franklin, whose work with X-ray diffraction images played a key role in uncovering the structure of DNA.
As part of their learning, they have been investigating why Rosalind Franklin’s contributions were not fully acknowledged at the time, leading to thoughtful discussions about fairness, recognition, and the role of women in science.
It has been wonderful to see the class developing both their historical enquiry skills and their ability to question and reflect on the past. We are very proud of their insightful ideas and engaging discussions!
