Year 2 inspired by historical figures
Recently, Year 2 have been looking at inspirational people and learning about trail-blazing nurse Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) and ground-breaking artist, Vincent van Gogh.
The children have begun to understand how Florence Nightingale helped transform nursing during the Crimean War with her improved hygiene measures, organised care for soldiers, and better living standards. Her pioneering work laid the foundation of professional nursing in England and around the world.
As a consequence, I asked the children to independently write an account of her life and I wasn't disappointed. The display board was not large enough to contain all their work, so we have taken to the corridor walls as well!
The second art-based display was based on the work of Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890), specifically 'The Starry Night' (1889). This was teamwork at its best and the class shone. Here are photos of the work in progress and the final displays. Well done, Year 2!
