World Book Day 2026
Pupils, students and staff delighted in another joyful day celebrating the world of literacy. World Book Day highlights the importance of reading and aims to make books accessible to everyone, particularly in communities with low literacy levels. It encourages children and young adults to discover the pleasure of reading, helping to build foundational skills that are essential for education and personal development. The day also addresses barriers such as lack of access to books at home or in local libraries, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to read.
Instead of simply raising money, this year we chose to support the Pathway Project, a Staffordshire-based domestic abuse organisation supporting adults and young people experiencing or affected by domestic abuse. We asked pupils to donate new or nearly new books, particularly those suitable for young children, to help families who had had to walk away from everything and start their lives again. Thank you for the many books that were donated.
Congratulations to children and parents for the wonderful costumes on display today.

Winners of the Year 5 and Year 6 World Book Day competition went to Waterstones to select books for their library at Broadhurst accompanied by Mrs Mills, usually our Librarian, but for one day only, starring as Beatrix Potter.
