U13 Cricket vs Stafford Grammar School
Lichfield Cathedral School’s U13 cricket team got their season underway with a thrilling and hard-fought encounter against a strong Stafford Grammar School side. Despite narrowly missing out on victory, the boys can take great pride in a spirited and competitive performance.
Stafford won the toss and elected to bat, with LCS taking to the field full of energy and determination. The bowling unit, led superbly by Oliver W, Callum D, and Michael M, quickly found its rhythm and delivered a brilliant display of swing and spin. Their efforts restricted the home team to a modest total of 86 runs from their 18 overs – a credit to tight lines, clever variation, and some sharp fielding throughout.
In response, Lichfield’s batting innings got off to a flying start thanks to a composed and confident opening partnership between Miles H and Oliver W. Facing a barrage of quick seam bowling from Stafford’s talented attack, both batsmen showed courage and skill. Miles in particular played a range of fantastic shots, demonstrating fine technique and timing under pressure.
With the match finely poised, it came down to the final over. Needing 8 runs from the last 2 balls, LCS pushed hard but ultimately fell just short. Despite the narrow loss, the match was filled with brave and solid performances across the board, and the team showed excellent promise for the season ahead. This was a match to be proud of – the boys showed resilience, talent, and team spirit. A great foundation to build on for the rest of the season.
