The College of Canons supper
On Monday March 2nd, Head and Deputy Choristers celebrated St Chad’s Day with a special Evensong, and afterwards joined The College of Canons for dinner in the Cathedral around the Fenland table.
At the end of dinner, a Loving Cup is passed along the dining table with each person saying to their neighbour the school motto 'Inservi Deo et laetare' as they hand the Cup over to take a sip of wine. Whilst taking a sip from the Cup the person is protected from possible enemies by the person standing behind them, which is perfectly shown in the photograph of Toby S, Milly T and Elijah C.
The cup used at Monday's dinner last night was the St Chad Cup, designed in 1991 by Kevin Coates. The bowl of the silver cup is held by two angels high above the mitred figure of St Chad holding a garland inscribed with Inservi Deo et laetare.
Evensong is sung each week by Choristers and Choral Scholars on Tuesday to Friday at 5.30pm and Sunday at 3.30pm together with Sunday Eucharist at 10.30am.
