Staffordshire Schools County Athletics Championships
On Saturday 14 June, the Staffordshire Schools County Athletics Championships took place at Northwood Stadium in Stoke. This is where the best athletes from across the county come together to compete for their district teams.
LCS had another strong year at the Cannock and District Athletics events and it meant that we had several pupils who were competing at the county championships. It really is a significant achievement to qualify through to the county championships and our pupils all put in excellent performances.
The first highlight of the day was Charlie winning the U15 boys' hammer competition with a new personal best throw. This is an event he has only just picked up and he is still getting to grips with it. Luella finished in second place in the U17 girls' high jump, as well as competing in the 100m. Ruby took part in the U17 girls' javelin and placed second as well. Louis won his 200m heat comfortably, which qualified him for the final. He then finished a close second in that, picking up the silver medal.
Perhaps the best performance from our athletes came in the U15 girls' pole vault, where Maisie not only won the competition, but set a new lifetime best and a new Championship Best Performance, which she had previously equalled last year.
Charlie M – Discus 6th and Hammer 1st
Charlie T – Triple Jump 4th
Jeremy – Long Jump – 6th

The athletes who finished in the top two in their events have now qualified for the Staffordshire Schools Athletics Team and will represent the county on Saturday 21st June in an Inter-Counties match. Well done to Charlie, Luella, Louis, Ruby and Maisie.
