Prize-winning German art project

Last term Year 5 learnt about Karneval in Germany as part of their German language lessons, watching videos about the tradition and festivities taking place every year in cities such as Cologne.

Inspired by this German cultural tradition, the children designed their own carnival mask and used their knowledge of the German names for colours to annotate their mask. Ten masks were chosen and entered into a national competition organised by the British-German Association (BGA).  During the Easter holiday I received an email from the BGA not only to thank me for the entries, but to inform us that Logan had been awarded 3rd prize.

Tamara Aberle (Programme and Membership Lead) from the BGA wrote: “to congratulate all your students for their imaginative interpretation of a carnival mask, but in particular to Logan. We were especially impressed by his creativity and his confident use of the German language, and we would like to reward Logan with our third prize, an Eyewitness Guide to Germany.”

What a wonderful achievement. Congratulations to all of Year 5 and to Logan in particular.
