Musical success at LCS
We are delighted to share the results of this year’s music exams – and what an outstanding set of achievements they are.
Across the year, Lichfield Cathedral School hosted 97 face-to-face ABRSM exams and 15 Trinity exams, with the majority taken by our own pupils. We’re incredibly proud to announce a 100% pass rate across both boards – a true testament to the hard work and commitment of our young musicians.
Nearly 50% of entries were awarded Merit and more than 25% achieved the top grade of Distinction.
Some highlights include:
Sophie – Distinction, Trinity Grade 8 Singing
Louis – Distinction, ABRSM Grade 4 Euphonium
Amelia – Distinction, Trinity Grade 1 Singing
Henry – Distinction, ABRSM Grade 1 Alto Saxophone
Reece – Merit, Trinity Grade 7 Singing
Katie – Merit, Trinity Grade 6 Flute
Grace – Merit, Trinity Grade 5 Singing
We also welcomed several external candidates – including siblings and former pupils – who contributed to the vibrant and celebratory atmosphere.
Music exams aren’t just about marks – they help build confidence, discipline, and musical understanding. As pupils progress to higher grades, they also earn UCAS points, supporting university and conservatoire applications – even for those who choose not to study Music further.
Music Theory Matters
From September, we’ll be launching a brand new Music Theory Club – perfect for pupils preparing for exams or simply wishing to strengthen their musical knowledge.

Thank You
A heartfelt thank you to our exceptional team of Visiting Music Teachers, whose talent and dedication have guided our pupils to such success. We are also enormously grateful to Mrs Davis, whose outstanding organisation makes this all possible – her calm leadership truly is the engine behind the operation. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to our brilliant accompanists, whose musicianship and support helped ensure the smooth running of each performance and exam day. Huge congratulations to every pupil who took part – thank you for your energy, your excellence, and for filling LCS with music all year long.
