Incredible Year 8 & 9 Concert

As many of you know, I was a pupil here at Lichfield Cathedral School throughout my secondary education, and I absolutely loved Music at the School (and still do!).

One of the highlights of the year for me as a student was always the Year Group Concerts. I loved having the chance to share pieces I’d been working on in my 1:1 lessons, but even more so, I loved hearing my peers perform.

Performance opportunities like these are about so much more than simply standing up and playing or singing. They help pupils build confidence, resilience, and stage presence - valuable life skills that reach far beyond music.

But just as importantly, they also nurture the skills of being a supportive, focused audience member. Watching and listening to peers perform encourages empathy, appreciation and a sense of belonging to a wider musical community.

That’s why, when I became Head of Music here, I wanted to relaunch this special tradition. So far this year, we’ve enjoyed fantastic performances from pupils in Year 5 & 6, Year 7, and our GCSE and A Level recital evening. Most recently, on Thursday 22nd May, we were treated to a wonderful evening of music from Year 8 and Year 9 soloists, who performed in Minster Hall.

The concert showcased an impressive range of instruments and musical styles. There were incredible instrumental solos on flute, saxophone, violin, euphonium, cornet and piano, alongside moving vocal performances too, including Pokarekare AnaWe’ll Meet Again, and Candle on the Water.

It’s been a joy to bring this tradition back, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s concerts.

Music is alive and thriving at LCS, so thank you for continuing to support and celebrate it with us.
