ISA National Athletics Championships

On Monday of last week, 8 pupils went to Alexander Stadium in Birmingham to compete at the ISA National Athletics Championships. The event, a huge achievement for any pupil to compete in, proved to be a really good day for all involved. The best independent school pupils from the across England come together to represent their regional areas, with medals up for grabs across all events.

First up was Charlie in the Year 9 triple jump. Charlie smashed his previous personal best distance by over 40cm and achieving a Bronze medal at the same time. At the same time, Annabelle was competing in the Year 5 girls' long jump. Annabelle had put significant work into her run up at her club recently, and it certainly paid off in a very tight competition. Annabelle also won the Bronze medal.

Next was Freya and Ava who were both competing in the 1500m races. They ran consistently and showed great determination to finish the race strongly. In the Year 7 boys' 200m, Henry finished agonisingly just outside the medals in 4th place, with a really strong run, and Louis secured our 3rd Bronze medal shortly after in the 200m.

LCS had representatives in all three of the secondary school boys' relay teams, with Henry going in the Year 7 Midlands team, Miles and Alex in the Year 8/9 Midlands team and Louis in the Year 10/11 Midlands team.  All of them ran terrific legs, but Louis and his team mates stole the show, with a brilliant all-round display which resulted in them winning the Gold medal.

LCS were not only represented by 8 fine athletes, but they were also represented by 7 of the best young leaders. All 7 worked extremely hard the whole day, and they were a credit to themselves and the school. Several comments from officials and other teachers highlighted what a great job they had done. I am delighted they will have gained so much experience from the day.
