'Highly commended' in national translation competition

The Languages Department recently took part in the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators, an annual translation competition run by the Queen's Translation Exchange at the University of Oxford.
This year, more than 25,000 participants from across the UK took part. All the entries were judged by professional literary translators and Modern Languages students at the University of Oxford, who remarked on the extremely high standard of the translations received this year.
We were, therefore, particularly delighted to hear that Sam in Year 7 had been selected to receive a Highly Commended Award for his translation of the French poem "Aurore" by George Sand. The judges noted that his translation "showed an impressive balance of accuracy and creativity". Bravo, Sam! Congratulations! And well done to all the pupils who took part!
