Excellent GCSE results celebrated!

Lichfield Cathedral School students on the steps to The Palace celebrate excellent GCSE results

Lichfield Cathedral School is celebrating another year of strong GCSE results, with students, staff and parents sharing in the success of a cohort whose hard work and determination have been rewarded. As a non-selective school whose students have a wide range of academic ability, 27% of all grades being 9-7 is an excellent achievement, and 63% of all vocational qualifications were awarded Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.

Headteacher Sue Hannam congratulated students on their achievements and thanked the wider school community for their contribution.

"We are absolutely delighted with this year's GCSE results. These achievements are a testament to the dedication and resilience shown by our students over the past two years. They have embraced every challenge and should be immensely proud of what they have accomplished. Within the excellent results were some outstanding individual achievements, with Ruby Clayton achieving nine grades at 9-7 (previously A*-A), Rhydian Perkins achieving eight, while Douglas Latham, Charlotte Bowker and George Bates each secured seven grades at 9-7.

"I would also like to pay tribute to our outstanding teachers and support staff, whose expertise, commitment and encouragement have helped students achieve their very best. Equally, we are extremely grateful to parents for the invaluable support they have provided throughout this important stage of their children's education. These results are very much a shared success."

Many students will now progress into the School's thriving Sixth Form, where they will begin the next stage of their academic journey in September.

Deputy Head Andrew Harrison said:

"It is wonderful to see our students achieving such strong results and reaching this important milestone. An LCS education is fully rounded, with opportunities to develop important skills for life, thus the excellent academic outcomes achieved by our students should be read alongside their wider experience that simply cannot be captured by a set of results.

“We are looking forward to welcoming them into Sixth Form in just a few weeks' time, where they will benefit from expert teaching, excellent pastoral support, and a wide range of opportunities to help them flourish academically and personally. We are excited to see what this talented group will achieve over the next two years."

The School is also encouraging students from across the region who may not have achieved the GCSE results they had hoped for to consider joining Lichfield Cathedral School Sixth Form this September.

Headteacher Sue Hannam added:

"For some young people, GCSE Results Day can bring disappointment as well as celebration. We want students and their families to know that there are still excellent opportunities available. At Lichfield Cathedral School, students can join our Sixth Form and begin studying their chosen A Level subjects while simultaneously resitting GCSEs.

"This pathway has proved exceptionally successful for many students whose GCSE results may not fully reflect their potential. Through our small tutorial groups, dedicated academic mentoring and nurturing ethos, students receive the personalised support they need to thrive.

"The impact of this approach is reflected in our consistently strong value-added performance. Lichfield Cathedral School ranks within the top 10% of schools nationally for value-added, which measures the difference a school's education makes to a student's academic achievement. Time and again, we see students exceed expectations and secure progression to leading universities, apprenticeships and careers."

As celebrations continue, the School is looking forward to welcoming both returning and new students into Sixth Form in September and supporting them as they take the next steps towards their future ambitions.
