Condover Hall Sports Tour Weekend
Just before the Easter holiday, some of our Year 8 pupils had the opportunity to take part in a sport residential weekend at Condover Hall. Mr Mayne, Mr Westwood, Mrs Gleeson and Miss Yates took 25 pupils to Shropshire to take part in football and netball tournaments, where our pupils represented the school with outstanding sportsmanship and determination throughout the whole weekend. Schools from south London, Yorkshire, Cardiff, Merseyside and Bristol attended the event, making all the matches highly competitive.
The trip was packed with competitive matches, team-building activities, and plenty of excitement. Both our netball and football teams showcased their skills, resilience and teamwork, making us incredibly proud.
Netball Success
Our Year 8 netball team delivered a strong performance, securing the Plate Winner’s title. The team played seven matches, winning three, demonstrating great progress and teamwork over the tournament. A special mention goes to Rosie, who was named Player of the Tournament, for her excellent contributions as GA. Although the team found it tough going at times, they continued to work hard and improved so much during the competition. One of the standout moments came in a thrilling match against Llandaff Cathedral School, who we lost 6-1 to in the group stage, but beat 6-4 to win the Plate - a testament to the team's hard work and dedication.
Football Achievements
Our footballers had a fantastic run in the competition, with both Team A and Team B giving it their all in every match. The two teams found it hard work at first, as they were playing 5-a-side football which was much quicker than their normal 9- or 11-a-side. Once they got to grips with the speed of the play, they progressively improved as the tournament went on. Team A reached the semi-finals after finishing second in their group, unfortunately losing 3-2 in a very tight, competitive match. Team B narrowly missed the knockout stages finishing 7th out of 14 teams, a commendable achievement against strong opposition. Across nine matches, our teams won three and drew two, proving they were more than competitive against some strong Year 8 and Year 9 teams. Out of the 16 footballers who played in the tournament, it was great to see nine of those players getting on the scoresheet.
A huge congratulations to Tom, our top goal scorer, who netted an incredible nine goals in four games during the tournament! Some standout victories included the Red Team beating Guiseley School 7-0 and the Yellow Yeam beating Westfield 4-0.
Beyond the Competition
Pupil also had the opportunity to take part in outdoor adventurous activities which really added to the whole weekend. When not playing football or netball, the pupils were enjoying activities like rock climbing, abseiling, archery, axe throwing, zip line and tunnelling. There were so many different activities to try and the pupils really enjoyed spending time with each other in between all the competitive matches. While the sporting achievements were a highlight, the trip was about more than just the matches. Pupils embraced the experience with enthusiasm, supporting one another and creating lasting memories. Whether on the court, the pitch, or during team-bonding activities at Condover Hall, their energy made the trip a great success.
A huge thank you to all the pupils for their fantastic attitude and commitment throughout the weekend. Their behaviour was absolutely brilliant, and they showcased how amazing the pupils at LCS are. We look forward to more exciting sporting opportunities in the future!
