Choristers sing in St Paul's Cathedral

Lichfield Cathedral Choir had the privilege of being invited to take part in the 370th Festival of Clergy Support Trust at St Paul's Cathedral on Tuesday. The trust is the oldest charity which provides financial support to Anglican ministers and their families.

The Service at St Paul's Cathedral is one of the oldest choral music events in the world, and brings together three of the UK’s finest cathedral choirs.  This year the music was sung by the choirs of Lichfield, St Paul's and Bradford cathedrals and was conducted by Mr Andrew Carwood MBE, Director of Music at St Paul's. The anthem sung by Lichfield was conducted by Mr Ben Lamb.

The Service included a majestic procession of Bishops, senior clergy, Masters of Livery Companies, representatives of the City of London, Stewards of the Festival and other dignitaries down the central aisle of St Paul’s Cathedral.

Founded in 1655 to support destitute clergy during the time of Oliver Cromwell, the Clergy Support Trust is focused on the wellbeing of Anglican clergy and their families, supporting thousands of households across the UK, Ireland, Diocese of Europe, and Diocese of Sodor and Man.

It was a long, but very enjoyable, day for all involved and has given the School's Choristers and Choral Scholars lifetime memories of performing in such an iconic building. Bishop Michael attended the service and has written his thanks to all involved: "I wanted to say how proud I felt to be Bishop of Lichfield last night at St Paul’s. The choir was magnificent, both in their singing and in their comportment, and I heard many, many appreciative comments from people at the dinner afterwards."
