Castle adventures for Year 1

Year 1 pupils recently embarked on an exciting adventure to Tamworth Castle, where they stepped back in time to experience life as a squire!

The day began with hands-on squire training, where the children had the opportunity to assemble a suit of armour. They learned about the fascinating billhooks and even trained to use them, immersing themselves in the skills of a medieval warrior.

During our tour of the castle, the children pretended to be brave archers defending the keep. They explored the dark and mysterious dungeon, climbed the tower to enjoy breathtaking views, and walked along the battlements, feeling like true knights and ladies of the castle.

In the armoury, everyone tried on shields and tunics, bringing history to life in a fun and engaging way. The highlight of the visit was meeting Lady Margaret, where the children prepared baskets for emergencies and dressed as the new Lord and Lady of the castle.

This trip was not only educational but also a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to learn through play and imagination, creating memories that will last a lifetime!
