Careers for women in professional theatre

A group of our students recently had the exciting opportunity to travel to London to attend a special theatre event hosted by The Female Lead. The trip included a matinee performance of Hercules at the iconic Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London.

Students travelled by train to London Euston before making their way via the Underground to the theatre. The afternoon performance was followed by an exclusive talkback session with women from the cast and crew, organised by The Female Lead. During this session, students had the opportunity to hear from a panel which included the producer, the lead make-up artist for the production, the head of materials and props, and an actress currently performing in The Lion King in the West End. Students learned first-hand about the many creative careers involved in producing a West End show and explored topics such as representation, women’s voices in the arts, and the opportunities available within the theatre industry.

The students were fantastic ambassadors for the school. Their behaviour throughout the day was excellent and they engaged confidently in the post-show discussion, asking thoughtful questions and contributing positively to the conversation. Mrs Simmons, the students and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, which provided a memorable insight into the world of professional theatre and celebrated the importance of women’s voices within the creative industries.
