Cannock & District Athletics

Before half term, our athletes from Years 7-10 competed at the Cannock & District Athletics competitions. There were three events in total, all taking place at Aldersley Stadium in Wolverhampton. Pupils were trying to gain selection for the District team, to compete at the Staffordshire County Schools Championships in June. There were some brilliant results across the three competitions and some of the highlights were below:

A fantastic total of 12 gold, 15 silver and 16 bronze medals across the three competitions.

ISA Midlands Senior Athletics

The last day before May half term, the LCS athletics team went to Leicester for the Independent Schools Midlands Regional Athletics Championships. We had already had Annabelle (Year 5) qualify for the National Finals, but we were hopeful that some others would be able to join her on the 15th June at Alexander Stadium. Once again, our pupils really stepped up against some tough opponents.

GOLD  Louis - 200m;  Year 8/9 Boys' Relay;  Charlie - Triple Jump
SILVER  Year 7 Boys' Relay;  Henry - 200m;  Emil - Shot;  Ava - 1500m;  Lucia - Discus;  Freya - 1500m
BRONZE  Charlie - Discus;  Billy - Hurdles;  Leo - 1500m;  Charlie - High Jump;  Miles - Long Jump;  Alex - 800m and 200m;  Zini - Long Jump;  Elsie - High Jump;  Maisie - High Jump

So, with adding these to the medals we won at the Junior ISA Midlands Athletics earlier in the term, LCS picked up an impressive medal haul of 4 gold, 8 silver and 10 bronze medals.

Staffordshire County Schools Athletics Championships

On the back of the impressive performances at the Cannock and District athletics competitions before half term, LCS had a total of 12 students who qualified for the Staffordshire Schools County Championships. The 12 students were selected to take part in a total of 17 events between them and they were competing against the best athletes from across the district. Once again, medals were up for grabs and pupils had the opportunity to qualify for the Mason Trophy and represent the county.

GOLD Charlie - High Jump; Maisie - Pole Vault
SILVER Charlie - Discus and Hammer; Charlie - Triple Jump; Katie - Hurdles
BRONZE Alex - 800m; Freya - 1500m; Henry - 100m

Special shout outs to Lucia and Henry who narrowly missed out on a medal in their events, finishing fourth in the discus and 800m. Katie also competed in the javelin and Miles in the Long Jump. Ollie, Emilia and Ines were all selected, but weren't able to compete.

Maisie also broke her own Championship Record from the previous year, with an impressive National Standard vault of 3.30m.

With the Mason Trophy and English Schools National Athletics Championships still to come, there is plenty to look forward to for those pupils who are lucky enough to qualify for those events. Across the summer so far, LCS has won a brilliant 19 Gold, 26 Silver and 32 Bronze medal positions from across district, county, regional and national competitions. Coupled with the fact that LCS has had staff and pupils taking part in local running events and providing young leaders as volunteers at a national competition, it really has been a brilliant few weeks of athletics.
