Independent Schools Midlands Regional Competition
The Independent Schools Midlands Regional Athletics competitions took place a couple of weeks ago at Aldersley Stadium in Wolverhampton. The senior competition took place on the Tuesday, whilst our junior pupils were competing on the Wednesday. It total, there were around 24 other independent schools who attended the events, which made for a really competitive couple of days of athletics. This is only the third year we have attended these competitions and we have previously done very well, but were aiming to beat our medal tally if we could.
The pupils have worked hard during their PE lessons to improve their times/distances, and we’ve had more than 40 pupils attending the athletics afterschool club on a Wednesday. It was great for the pupils to put into practice what they had worked on in their lessons and show it off in a big competition like this.
Last year, we did really well across the two competitions and came away with 16 medals in total. This year we smashed that total and came away with our largest number of medals yet across the two days. In total, LCS finished the competition with 26 medals in total:
Sam Pr – 3rd Javelin
Charlie M – 3rd Discus and 3rd Shot
Harry T – 3rd Hurdles
Charlie T – 2nd Hurdles and 1st Triple Jump
Jeremy – 3rd Long Jump
Louis M – 3rd Long Jump and 1st 200m
Years 8/9 Boys Relay Team – 2nd
Alex F – 3rd 800m
Ben H – 1st 300m
Ruby C – 2nd Discus and 1st Javelin
Annabel C – 3rd Discus
Luella H – 3rd High Jump and 2nd 100m
Layla H – 2nd Hurdles
Freya A – 2nd 1500m
Izzy W – 3rd 100m
Year 4 Girls Relay Team – 2nd
Annabelle C – 2nd 60m
Rufus WD – 3rd Vortex Throw
Theo T – 3rd 150m
Poppy R – 3rd 600m
A fabulous result from the whole team, which saw plenty of close 4th and 5th places as well. Everyone played their part across the two days, which resulted in LCS finishing 3rd overall out of 24 other schools, placing high just behind Dixie Grammar and Princethorpe College.
