2026: The Year of Reading

As the LCS Librarian, I am excited to introduce 2026 as the National Year of Reading, a nationwide campaign led by the Department for Education and the National Literacy Trust to promote the joy of reading to children and adults.

Here are just a few things we do already:

  • Provide libraries at Longdon, Broadhurst and the Palace filled with interesting and engaging books, with new ones added all the time.
  • Invite inspiring authors into school for World Book Day in March.
  • Run Book Fairs offering the latest books at discounted prices.
  • Encourage pupils to suggest new books for the library to acquire.
  • Invite poets into school to run workshops for National Poetry Day on October.
  • Sixth Form Reading Buddies work with Year 5 & 6 children.
  • Offer Book Club in the Palace Library, plus Library Clubs at Broadhurst and Longdon.
  • Run a Ten-minute Book Club during Form Time.
  • Reading time in English lessons.
  • Reading Page in the School Planner.

Further updates on still more activities will follow in future LCS Updates.  Let’s make 2026 the year we all fall in love with reading again!
