Music Scholarships

A music scholarship is offered each year for internal or external candidates entering Year 5 or above.  The successful candidate will display a high standard of musical performance at audition. The size of the scholarship is determined by the Headmaster in conjunction with the Director of music.

A child applying for a scholarship will possess a high level of proficiency on their musical instrument(s), normally backed up by the evidence of appropriate Grade Examination success: a guide would be grade 2 or higher at the age of nine.

The audition will take place on a Saturday in early February, or at another date as arranged, and will consist of playing a prepared piece on one or more instruments, a sight-reading exercise, aural tests and a general viva voce. The candidate will also be tested on verbal reasoning, reading ability, and mathematics, and a report will be obtained from their current Headteacher.

As a Music Scholar, a child would be expected to practise regularly and to join in suitable instrumental groups and/or choirs

The Headmaster is always happy to meet prospective parents in order to discuss their child's education in detail and to show them something of the School. Parents wishing to arrange a visit may contact the school by post, email or telephone, so that a mutually convenient time can be arranged.

As with all other awards, only one may be held at any stage.
