Fairtrade Fortnight a success!

Report by Kerenza, Chair of the Fairtrade Committee

Over the past two weeks, the school has been holding events for Fairtrade fortnight. These events included; a chocolate stall, a chocolate fountain, a hot chocolate stall and a cake stall all supplying Fairtrade treats and gifts.

Through the generosity of the pupils and the help of all of the staff, especially Mr Morgan our catering manager and Mrs Hannam, as well as the Fairtrade Committee pupil members and friends and Traidcraft members of Lichfield Cathedral, we have been able to raise a grand total of £390.

This fantastic amount raised will go towards helping farmers in Africa, Asia and South America. The money will be spread across multiple programmes, including helping farmers and workers benefit from increased efficiency and better communication across the supply chain in Africa to working with 4,000 cotton farming households
in South-West Odisha, India, to create a more sustainable future.

The charity events have helped pupils learn more about Fairtrade products and how such a simple change from buying a Fairtrade chocolate bar or banana can have  such a large impact on people’s lives.  Fairtrade Fortnight has been successful at getting the school involved in such important charity work, and we hope that more events like this can take place in the near future!
