Exploring stained glass

06 Oct

As part of our 75th anniversary celebrations, we are creating a piece of art to hang at Longdon using glass.  We are being supported in this project by The Arts Society: Needwood-Lichfield who have generously given the school a Young Arts grant to fund the involvement of a local stained glass artist.

The School's Art Scholars are learning about the commissioning process, as well as developing stained glass skills.  They are working with children at Longdon to generate ideas for the artwork alongside a school-wide competition to create a design.

The Stained Glass Club meets after school on Thursdays and this week they began by practising glass staining using specialist stains on jars to familiarise themselves with this technique.  Each pupil has a folder in which they have begun the design process by writing out the design brief. Each week they will proceed further through the creative process generating designs, experimenting with different glass techniques and documenting progress towards creating a beautiful glass panel. Next week the Club will be studying glass fusing techniques.
