Sunday 22 February 2026 U12 and U13 Girls' Netball vs Stafford Grammar We recently took two teams - U12 and U13 girls - to Stafford Grammar for their fixtures. This was the first competitive fixture of the year for our Year 7 and 8 girls playing in their age groups.

Saturday 21 February 2026 Maisie 2nd in the UK in pole vault! A huge well done to Maisie (Year 9) for winning Silver in Pole Vault at the Indoor National Championships with a personal best height of 3m 30cm and setting a new Birchfield Harriers Record for U15 girls!

Friday 13 February 2026 Vikings ho! with Year 4 Last Monday, Year 4 enjoyed an interactive Vikings Day, starting with some immersive drama. The children re-enacted different Anglo-Saxon and Viking scenes: we sailed in longships; hid from fearsome monsters; and dined with ancient Royalty.

Thursday 12 February 2026 Year 2 turn into The Twits! Year 2 have started to study The Twits by Roald Dahl and they have been learning all about Mr Twit's revolting beard. They have written some rather graphic and thoroughly disgusting descriptions using lots of wonderful adjectives, which is great.

Wednesday 11 February 2026 Well done Year 2 and 3 hockey players! Lucas and Jessica in Year 3, and Olive and Fraser from Year 2, took part in a hockey tournament for Lichfield Hockey Club recently.

Tuesday 10 February 2026 U13 Hockey vs Dixie Grammar On Monday 2nd February, the U13 teams travelled to play hockey against Dixie Grammar School. One team went 1-0 down to Dixie, but with great determination they worked well together to win 3-2 overall with goals from Isla, Annabel and Emilia R.

Monday 9 February 2026 Why being cheerful is so important Well, this is definitely one of my favourite subjects. Replace cheerful with joyful and we are reminded of our school motto ‘Inservi Deo et laetare' – ‘Serve God and be joyful'. With our Foundation Day having been celebrated last week, looking to our roots and the importance of joy in school life is most apposite. So why is being cheerful such a potent thing? It's certainly a prerequisite to teaching and is a quality we look for in any candidates we interview for appointment here in school.

Thursday 5 February 2026 Outdoors with the Growing Minds curriculum During the last month, we have wassailed the fruit trees, had a visit from the Mari Lwyd, dug over the wildflower meadow, planted bulbs in pots, made looms from sticks to learn about weaving, enjoyed the snow, made biodegradable bird feeders, took part in the Big Schools Birdwatch and cast Viking coins from pewter - oh, and made the most of all the mud!!

Wednesday 4 February 2026 Congratulations Hugo! Many congratulations to Hugo (Year 4) who was recently installed as a full chorister into the Lichfield Cathedral Choral Foundation. Hugo joins his older brother George who is a Choral Scholar and sisters Francesca and Sophia in the Cathedral Choir.

Tuesday 3 February 2026 U11 Hockey vs NULS In their first fixture of the hockey season, the U11 boys made an outstanding start with a superb team performance against Newcastle-under-Lyme School. Well organised from the outset, the boys played some excellent hockey with fantastic link-up play throughout.

Sunday 1 February 2026 U9 Girls' Netball vs Highclare Our U9 girls played their first netball fixture of the year on Friday against Highclare. This was an especially exciting occasion as it was the first time the girls had played together as a team, and they approached the afternoon with lots of enthusiasm and excitement.

Saturday 31 January 2026 U15 Girls' Netball vs Stafford Grammar Our U15 girls played their first fixture of the year on Thursday against Stafford Grammar, which was also their first opportunity to play together as a team. From the opening whistle, the girls showed great confidence and cohesion.

Tuesday 27 January 2026 Happy Birthday LCS! Today we celebrate our 84 years since the refoundation of our school in 1942. Foundation Day is a cause for great celebration here in School and it's not lost on us that the refounding of a school during a world war was an audacious endeavour. Our day traditionally starts with a popular cooked breakfast prior to our service of rededication in the cathedral. We are provided with the opportunity to give thanks for the year we have shared and for those who have supported the School in a variety of ways since its origins as a song school.
